| About Us Williams Muscadine Vineyard was derived from the Williams Farm which was established in Nesmith, South Carolina during the early 1930s by Rev. Gabriel Williams (born 1882), and Mary Pressley Nesmith Williams (born 1882), after their marriage on April 10, 1926. They were the first generation out of slavery. The mission of Williams Muscadine Vineyard and Farm is to produce and provide high quality, delicious and nutritional products, and meaningful educational experiences of early Black farm life in the rural south. The transformation of the farm from growing cotton, tobacco, corn and other farm crops was made by David A. Williams, (the only joint offspring of his parents), after his retirement from teaching, in 1987. Mr. Williams received a B. S. in Vocational Agriculture from S. C. State University in 1950. He practiced on the farm what he preached to his students during the 30 plus years in his vocational agriculture and sciene classrooms in Williamsburg County. Mr. Williams along with Mrs. Williams, their seven children, spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren are all actively involved in the vineyard and farm activities to include the annual Muscadine Festival during Labor Day weekend and U-Pick during the month of September. Additionally, there are farm tours and educational presentations to groups of school children, and hands on experiences with old farm tools and kitchen utensils. Vineyard and Farm location The vineyard is located in the Nesmith Corner section of Nesmith, Williamsburg County, South Carolina. It is located 14 miles east of Kingstree off highway 261, 11 miles south of Hemingway and 26 miles northwest of Georgetown, off S-45-24, Nesmith Highway.. Customer testimonials "Mr. Williams and family plan exciting and motivating lessons for the students at the vineyard. They plan a variety of instructional lessons incorporating the S.C. Curriculum Standards for math, science, reading and social studies," stated an elementary school principal. As a unique vineyard and Black farm experience, include us on your list of activities.
